Summerboard Pros
Lighter Weight
If you're looking for a board to bring on the go, the Summerboard may be better for you. Although the board comes in various weights, the Summerboard is much less bulky and easier to travel with than the Onewheel™.
Can Reach Higher Speeds
Unlike the Onewheel™, the Summerboard has four wheels that allow it to cruise faster than the Onewheel™ and eliminates the chance of nosediving on the pavement.
Summerboard Cons
Less Control
Like almost all electric skateboards, the Summerboard requires a handheld remote to be used while riding. This forces riders to multitask during their ride and puts them at risk of losing the remote, the batteries dying, or it breaking entirely. Additionally, since the Summerboard is intended to ride on the edge wheels and “slide,” there is a steep learning curve to become a proficient rider.
Less Customization Options
It's not uncommon for riders to customize their boards to add a unique flair or personal touch. The Onewheel™ provides riders with significantly more customization options than the Summerboard. From the fender, rails, tires, float plates and pads—there are so many more ways to deck out the Onewheel™.
Onewheel™ Pros
Better Control
Unlike most electric skateboards, the Onewheel™ doesn't require a handheld remote control, giving riders more direct control of their board. Instead, it gives the rider all the control by using their bodyweight and core to move.
Can Ride on Various Terrain
Most electric skateboards are limited to riding on smooth pavement. Cracks, potholes, or uneven pavement can be harmful to the Summerboard if you’re riding in a slide. While there are offboarding electric skateboards out there, the Onewheel™ can ride on all different terrains, including pavement.
Easier to Maneuver
As mentioned above, the Onewheel™ uses bodyweight to move, meaning riders can maneuver their boards much easier than on the Summerboard. Experienced Onewheel™ riders can even turn—almost in place—up to 180 degrees which is significantly more than the Summerboard.
Onewheel™ Cons
Difficult to Transport
While it can be transported, the Onewheel™ is much bulkier and heavier than the Summerboard. There are also flight restrictions on the flagship model, Onewheel+ XR™ which has a battery capacity over the TSA allowable maximum, whereas all current Summerboard models are TSA compliant. So, if you’re looking for a board that you can easily bring on trips, definitely keep this factor in mind.
Slower Speed
If you’re a speed demon, the Onewheel™ might not be your first choice. The Onewheel™ advertises that it can reach up to 19 mph, but the board’s main focus is the ability to ride on different terrain.
